Caroline Stoughton, Closer Than You Imagine
NOTE: Artist talk which will be live with Q & A: 6:30 pm
— Collaboratively Hosted by Side Street Gallery and Maryam’s Mark & Co./ Art Social
Side Street Gallery is pleased to announce the highly anticipated solo exhibition of
Caroline Stoughton, Closer Than You Imagine. This marks Stoughton’s third solo
exhibition in 2024.
Closer Than You Imagine, invites viewers into a vibrant world where dreams and
desires are not distant aspirations, but rather intimate realities waiting to be recognized.
With her specific use of color and form, Stoughton captures the delicate interplay
between aspiration and reality, suggesting that the very things we yearn for often reside
within arm’s reach, merely obscured by our own minds.
The exhibition features paintings that meld rich, organic foliage with unexpected animal prints as seen in Wild,
symbolizing the interconnectedness of our dreams and the elements of our existence.
Stoughton’s work challenges us to reconsider our perceptions: what we seek may
already be present, blossoming quietly in the background.
Caroline Stoughton (b. 1998, Pennsylvania) earned her BFA from Tyler School of Art in
2020 and is the recipient of the prestigious Richard Cramer Color Award. Currently,
Stoughton is an artist-in-residence at Cherry Street Pier in Philadelphia. Stoughton’s
work has garnered attention nationwide, recently featured on Fox 29, and is held in
private collections across the United States and Rome, Italy.
A portion of the proceeds from all paintings sold will be donated to the Alzheimer’s
Association, in support of Stoughton’s “The Longest Day” campaign—an initiative
dedicated to raising funds for research and awareness in the fight against Alzheimer’s
disease.
“Closer Than You Imagine” will be on view from November 8 to November 30, 2024, at
Side Street Gallery. The opening reception will take place on November 1 from 6 PM to
8 PM. All our welcome. For the remainder of the exhibition, the gallery is open by
appointment only.
